French media: Moroccans arriving to Kragujevac’s Stellantis

The Stellantis factory in Kragujevac will get an additional 200 Moroccan workers at the beginning of October, joining the hundred who have already arrived in the past days, reports the French media outlet Fdesouche. The Italian-French-American group’s goal, as they state, is to strengthen the production lines of the “Fiat Grande Panda” model, since production of that car is set to cease in six European factories as early as October.

They write, as reported by the “Danas” portal, that unions in Serbia remind that the manufacturer has failed to find anyone “who would be willing to accept a monthly salary of around 600 euros.”

– Due to the lack of local labor, Stellantis is therefore relying on the mass hiring of workers from Morocco in order to reach full capacity, with the factory already producing around 350 vehicles per day – the French media outlet reports.

They remind that these arrivals coincide with the introduction of night shifts from the first week of October, so that the factory can be used to its maximum.

– For European unions, this situation illustrates the increasing reliance on foreign labor with lower wage expectations, to the detriment of domestic workers – concludes Fdesouche.
