How to better protect domestic production and reduce dependence on imports, what measures have been taken and what citizens need to know about the quality and origin of meat on our market.
– Pork imports have increased by 300 to 500%, because Serbia does not have enough of its own meat – says Mladen Alfirovic from the Association of Pig Breeders of Serbia.
He adds that domestic production satisfies only 30 to 40% of the buyer market in Serbia.
Breeders say that an additional problem, when it comes to consumers, is that they are insufficiently informed about the origin of meat.
– What our country has lacked so far is the full implementation of the law on food safety – notes Alfirovic.
He adds that Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamocic recognized this problem when he said that such things should no longer happen.
