– In November, we will have the first part of the steel structure in Serbia so that by the end of next year we will have a completely new bridge in Belgrade that will connect the two banks of the Sava River – said Mali, who toured the works on the New Belgrade side of the river a few days ago.
The bridge will be 420 meters long, 38 to 42 meters wide at the pedestrian viewing points and will allow for a much greater flow of traffic than the old bridge, Mali said, as announced by the Ministry of Finance.
He stated that the bridge would have a total of six lanes - four for cars, two in each direction, and two for trams. He added that it would be fully adapted for pedestrians and cyclists, and that it would have two lookout points. All of this, he stressed, will greatly contribute to the flow and safety of traffic.
Mali also pointed out that work is underway to dismantle the arch of the old bridge.
– We will try, based on the project that is being developed, to connect the Zemun quay and Lido with the old bridge. This would enable people to cross from one side to the other throughout the year, which is one of the long-standing wishes of citizens – said Mali, adding that the old bridge had dilapidated, wooden piles. Speaking about projects in Belgrade, the First Deputy Prime Minister reminded that the highest mast with a Serbian flag, 85 meters high, will be built at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube.
– The project will be completed by the end of next year. We are waiting for a building permit in order to start its implementation – said Sinisa Mali.
