Belgrade to commence traffic light modernization, tender worth 750 million dinars announced – 40 more intersections subject to adaptable traffic management system

The City of Belgrade, through the Secretariat for Transport, has announced an open procurement procedure for the modernization of traffic light signaling on the street network. The estimated value of the project is 750 million dinars.

The goal of the project is to unify the existing adaptable traffic management systems, which, as stated, will increase the efficiency of using the street network, reduce the number of stops and travel time, while at the same time improving the safety of road users and reducing the negative impact on the environment.

The project envisages that a total of 40 intersections in Belgrade will be connected to the central traffic management system. An adaptable management system will be implemented at 20 intersections, which enables optimization of the traffic light cycle in real time, while at the remaining 20 intersections, traffic will be controlled by local detectors that record the number of vehicles approaching the intersection.

In addition, the modernization includes the installation of new traffic light equipment and control devices, with a focus on increasing energy efficiency, reducing noise and exhaust emissions, as well as promoting the use of public transport by giving priority to buses and other vehicle categories.

The Secretariat for Transport emphasizes that the implementation of this project will also enable constant monitoring of traffic flows from the Traffic Management Center, which will further reduce maintenance costs and increase system reliability.
