– The task of the work group is to cooperate with the company Centunion S.A. for the purpose of the realization of this project, that is, running the negotiations, during which the value of the services and works on the construction of said facility, as well as the basic elements, will be defined to the end of signing a commercial contract – the decision emphasizes.
Miroslav Alempic, the acting assistant minister of construction, transport and infrastructure, has been appointed head of the work group.
Let us remind that, at the end of June, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced the signing of an agreement with the Spanish company on the construction of the new bridge in Backa Palanka, worth around EUR 126 million. Let us remind that concrete steps toward the implementation of this infrastructure project began with the Spanish company back in 2023, when the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and Centunion. Back then, the memorandum was signed by the then minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, and representatives of Centunion, and it was announced that the new bridge would be nearly two kilometers long - 1,915 meters, more precisely - with access routes that would be built on both sides.
The bridge on the Danube should be a connection from Backa Palanka to Nestin, which, along with another Fruska Gora village, Vizic, belongs to this municipality, and is located in Srem. The construction of that bridge, which would connect the Backa and Srem sides of the Backa Palanka municipality, was announced over ten years ago in the local parliament.
At the moment, the residents of these two Srem villages can only reach Backa Palanka through Croatia, crossing the border near Ilok in the Vukovar-Srijem County. For now, their only connection with Backa Palanka is the bridge between that city and Ilok. In addition to the complications due to the control and delays at the border, it is especially agriculturists who have problems, because, since Croatia joined the EU, they have not been able to carry their products across the bridge between Ilok and Backa Palanka.
