The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced that it has extended a subordinated loan in Serbian dinars to ProCredit Bank Serbia—marking the first such loan approved in local currency in the Western Balkans. Valued at EUR 12 million, the loan is intended to strengthen the bank’s capital base and contribute to the long-term resilience of Serbia’s banking sector.

The loan is aimed at supporting green investments and improving access to finance for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) led by women and young entrepreneurs—two groups that face particular challenges in accessing finance in Serbia, the statement said.

It was specified that the loan is structured with embedded call and early repayment options. According to the EBRD, the transaction brings international regulatory capital financing to Serbia—an innovation for the local financial market.

To date, the EBRD has invested more than EUR 10 billion in Serbia across 382 projects.
