EPS claims that electricity billing through Alta Bank accounts has no consequences for customers

The transition to electricity billing through current accounts of commercial banks has no consequences for customers, announced Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

This is the company’s response to Beta’s question whether electricity consumers will suffer any consequences, since EPS informed customers in its June electricity bill that starting the next month, the payment account would be changed; instead of the current treasury account, payments will be made to the current account of the private Alta Bank.

In its explanation, EPS stated that the process of switching to electricity billing through commercial bank accounts, instead of the Treasury Administration, “began in 2018 and was implemented in phases, following the transition of the centers for support of guaranteed supply to a single SAP billing system.”

– Payment via a current account of a commercial bank was first established in 2018 for the Kragujevac center area, then in the following years the change was made to the Nis, Novi Sad, Kraljevo centers, and finally the process was completed this year with the transfer of the last center, Belgrade – EPS stated in its response.

It is added that Alta Bank is one of the banks with which EPS has business cooperation, and the current account in that bank is a payment account only for the area of the Center for Support of Guaranteed Supply Belgrade. The company did not explain on the basis of which advantages Alta Banka was selected for this service.

EPS, as the largest company in the country, as stated, has developed cooperation with all commercial banks in Serbia, both state-owned and private. The company stated that in the public call for the selection of a payment processor within the application and portal “EPS account view,” Alta Bank was selected out of six banks that submitted a bid, because it offered the lowest commission price and the most favorable conditions, but the details were not provided.

EPS also did not respond to questions about how much the service of charging electricity through an account in Alta Bank will cost it, as well as whether the information reported by the media that EPS purchased software for Alta Bank for “Account Insight” is correct, if so, how much it paid and under what conditions it provided it.

There is also no answer to the question of whether all EPS financial transactions will go through Alta Bank in the future.

In its response, the company repeatedly emphasized that the switch to charging through current accounts of commercial banks “has absolutely no consequences for electricity customers and that any different interpretation is ill-intentioned and wrong with the aim of degrading the reputation of the largest company in the country.”
