The German company PWO in Preljina near Cacak has opened the factory for the development and production of components, tools, assemblies and parts for the automotive industry, where 137 workers are employed. The construction of the factory worth EUR 89 million started at the end of May last year, and the beginning of the production at full capacity is expected at the end of the year.

PWO also has a facility in Kragujevac, and it got a subsidy of around EUR 17 million for the investment in Serbia.

The opening of the factory which spreads on around 17,000 square meters was attended by the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who said that the German investor planned to have 500 workers at the factory in Cacak, and subsequently 800.

– This factory is a treasure for Cacak, and it would not have opened if the highway to Cacak had not been built – said Vucic.

He added that there were 38,000 employees in Cacak this far, 10,000 more than in 2012. According to him, the state will strengthen the infrastructural capacities in Cacak, in order to support the factory’s operations. He added that that pertained to electrical energy, water supply and sewerage.

– This investment is a symbol of good economic relations between Serbia and Germany. Germany is the biggest, most important trade partner of Serbia and, this year, we will exceed the amount of EUR 10 billion in total trade – said Vucic.

He reminded that Serbia had a surplus in that trade for the first time, as many German companies operated in Serbia exporting their goods to the German market.

Aleksa Mancic, CEO of PWO Serbia, stated that the opening of the factory opened the door to a new and stronger industrial Serbia.

– PWO is bringing to Serbia the most modern production processes in the field of metal processing and the manufacture of parts for the automotive industry and those technologies could not be seen in these areas until now – he said.

He pointed out that PWO also had a tool manufacturing facility in Kragujevac, producing the most complex tools for the entire PWO group worldwide, and that the Regional Center with highly educated workers had also been formed, providing various services to the whole group worldwide with its competences.

– By 2033, the plan is to build 100,000 square meters of production space and employ over 550 workers – said Mancic.
