Novi Sad-Subotica railroad by July 7?

The fast railroad from Novi Sad to Subotica that was supposed to open to traffic last autumn, but was postponed indefinitely due to the tragedy at the rail station in Novi Sad, in which 16 people lost their lives, might be opened by July 7, which can be concluded by the interview the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, gave to Pink.

– I believe that, by July 7, we might open the Belgrade-Subotica railroad. That’s when, because the Hungarians will have another fast railroad section to finish, it would take around three hours to reach Budapest. Truly wonderful, ideal, and that can happen in two months – Vucic said.

Let us remind that, following the accident in Novi Sad, the state announced that the railroad might be opened during the winter, which was eventually abandoned. What remains to be seen before the official opening, if it takes place during the summer, is whether they will await the official results of the study of the stability of the station building in Novi Sad (the preparation of which has been entrusted by the Serbian Railways Infrastructure to the Faculty of Technical Sciences in that city and the Institute for the Testing of Materials), from which, on November 1 last year, the canopy collapsed and killed people, or whether, regardless of that, an alternative way will be sought for entering the rail station in Novi Sad, which has not been used since the tragedy, with Petrovaradin used as the temporary terminus to and from Belgrade.
