Pasztor: Train service to start when everything is safe

The president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, Balint Pasztor, has stated that, although he doesn’t want to talk about when the rail traffic is to start on the new, fast railroad between Subotica, Novi Sad and Belgrade, “the train service will start when, beyond any doubt, the traffic is safe.”

He told the Subotica Hungarian Radio that a statics check of the rail infrastructure and the side facilities was in progress at that moment.

– I can hope that this could be realistic at the end of August too, but there is another date that is just as important for us Vojvodina Hungarians, which is December, when the whole railroad, all the way to Budapest, should be completed – he said.

Let us remind that, in the past few weeks, top state officials have been mentioning August precisely as the deadline for the opening of the new fast railroad, that is, passenger traffic from Novi Sad to Subotica, but it is still not specified how the handling of the passengers will be organized in Novi Sad itself, where a tragedy occurred on November 1 at the rail station.
