Mayor of Novi Sad announces public contest for memorial to victims of canopy collapse

The mayor of Novi Sad, Zarko Micin, has announced a public contest for setting up a memorial to the victims killed in the collapse of the canopy at the Rail Station in that city on November 1 last year.

– There has to be a memorial, it has to be a public contest, and it has to be a commission featuring an architect and an urban planner, and we should also consult the families and see what they have to say – Micin said on TV Pink.

Micin said that the memorial that had been set up by the students organizing the blockades and the citizens would not be removed.

– They set it up without any procedure, without consulting any society group, and the whole society has to decide on it – he said.

Talking about the request of the students who are organizing the blockades, Micin said that it was not the right moment to call an election.

– Taking into account the social and political tension, I don’t see any problem in waiting a little longer for the election to be organized – said Micin.
