Who will be able to fly from Kragujevac Airport

The news that the Serbian Government has decided to open a seasonal border crossing for international passenger traffic from Kragujevac-MIND Airport has caught many people by surprise, wondering why the Kragujevac Airport and whether it means that people will be able to travel to popular destinations from the heart of Sumadija, writes N1. The company “MIND Aviation”, which manages the airport, explains that the border crossing will start operating this season, but that for now only business aircraft will fly from it.

The Serbian Government announced that the border crossing would operate seasonally and would be in operation from April 1 to October 31, with working hours from 7 AM to 7 PM.

MIND Aviation told the N1 portal that the crossing would start operating in the current season, after receiving all the necessary approvals and instructions from the competent authorities. However, this does not mean that the people of Kragujevac will be able to fly from their city to the seaside or to some other destination. The company specifies that the airport is not intended for commercial flights on regular lines, but for the so-called business clientele.

– Flights are carried out in accordance with the client’s requests, according to the principles of general aviation, in compliance with the regulations and guidelines of the competent authorities – they explain and add that the airport is intended exclusively for general aviation aircraft with piston and turboprop engines up to 5,700 kg. General aviation is a term that denotes flight activities that do not include commercial air transport of passengers or cargo.

They state that the airport is intended primarily for business aviation and the promotion of aviation in general.

– In terms of business, the establishment of service centers is planned, while the border crossing will enable easier communication with potential users of service services – said the company. The Kragujevac Airport is located about 13 kilometers from the city center. It has a grass runway 900 meters long and 45 meters wide, which, according to the owner, is suitable for landing aircraft up to 5,700 kg. The airport website states that flying is possible during both daytime and nighttime when weather conditions are good, that is, when visibility is good.

The airport infrastructure also includes a hangar for housing and maintaining aircraft measuring 22 m x 30 m x 5 m and a room for a flight school.

The company plans to build an asphalt runway 1,400 meters long in the coming period, which would enable the takeoff and landing of larger business and cargo aircraft.
