Government adopts preventive and crisis plan for gas supply – What do the new regulations bring?

The Serbian Government has adopted two regulations regarding the supply of natural gas, which harmonize domestic regulations with new European Union regulations and fulfill the obligations assumed by signing the Energy Community Treaty, and establish measures and activities to further increase the reliable and efficient supply of this energy source.

These measures and activities, as announced by the Government, primarily relate to the further development of the national gas pipeline system, including storage capacities and connections with the systems of neighboring countries, which will enable further diversification of supply routes and sources.

The Regulation on the Establishment of the Preventive Action Plan to Ensure the Security of Natural Gas Supply includes a risk analysis on the basis of which measures and activities for their mitigation or elimination have been determined, with the added aim of ensuring a long-term reliable and efficient supply of natural gas and encouraging the development of the national gas system.

The Regulation on the Establishment of a Crisis Plan to Ensure the Security of Natural Gas Supply was also adopted.

– The crisis plan aims to determine the bearers of activities in the event of a crisis and the actions of the competent state authorities, natural gas system and storage operators, natural gas suppliers, electricity transmission system operators, large natural gas buyers and other involved energy entities, in order to act effectively in the event of supply disruptions or exceptionally high demand for gas, which could result in a significant deterioration in market supply – the Government of Serbia states.
