Preparatory works for installing mole for tunnel boring in two locations in Belgrade to begin soon

The preparatory works for the installation of the “mole” tunnel-boring machine, which is to dig through the tunnel from the Faculty of Economics of Belgrade to Despota Stefana Blvd, should begin in the next two months, following a delay due to technical obstacles, whereas the installation of the machine itself will take about one more year.

The head urban planner of the City of Belgrade, Marko Stojcic, said for today’s edition of the Vecernje Novosti newspaper that the preparation of the terrain for the installation of the “mole” was more complicated than the boring itself.

According to him, it is necessary to prepare the terrain, that is, the holes in which the machine is to be placed, from which it will start digging through the tunnel.

– It is necessary to do this in two locations – at the Faculty of Economics and in Despota Stefana Blvd, between which this underground route stretches. However, just the installation of the machine takes more than a year. When it is placed and the boring starts, there is no stopping – added Stojcic.

As announced earlier, the Chinese company PowerChina will be in charge in the realization of that project, and last year, the Government of Serbia adopted the borrowing of RSD 24.8 billion (around EUR 20 million) for the construction of that traffic route.
