The US motives in relation to the NIS company are determined by the desire to undermine at all costs an extremely successful cooperation project between the Russian investor and the Serbian side. This is an attack on the efficient cooperation of our countries, built over decades, on the Serbian economy and citizens. The typical Western logic of “either with us or not at all” applies here, in which there is no place for taking into account the interests of Serbia. The Americans’ frivolous explanation that the sanctions are not directed against Belgrade is false and hypocritical – this is the answer that Politika received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation when asked to comment on the US sanctions on NIS.

Explaining the causes of these sanctions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “this is a long-term policy of the collective West, aimed at the neocolonial subjugation of other countries, control over their economies and resources.”

– True independence and sovereignty there cause “allergies” and “non-acceptance”.

And when it comes to the solution to these sanctions, on which Russia and Serbia are working intensively, the Russian Foreign Ministry assures: “We count on a mutually acceptable solution being found this time as well. Therefore, we believe that Serbia’s sovereignty will be preserved and that the people will not feel the crisis that natural energy sources can cause, especially this winter.”

In their response to Politika, they also said that Russia and Serbia had thus far successfully resisted sabotage attacks and protected joint work from enemy machinations.

– We are counting on a mutually acceptable solution being found this time as well. We are working together to resolve this situation. We proceed from the need to maintain a strategic partnership with Serbia, based on centuries-old fraternal ties between the peoples of the two countries, fundamental national interests and honest cooperation – the Ministry’s response states.
