Happy May 1! – Electricity and Gas Prices to Increase

From May 1, the price of electricity will increase 8%, and that of gas 10%, according to a press release from the Ministry of Mining and Energy. For example, an average electricity bill will be approximately 250 dinars higher. As added the increase in the prices of electricity and gas is part of the current standby arrangement with the International Monetary Fund.

As stated further, to the end of helping socially vulnerable consumers, the Government of Serbia has set aside RSD 4 billion from the budget.

– The ministry appeals to the local self-governments to help everybody who has the right to the status of an energy-vulnerable consumer to apply in order to realize considerably lower bills and to the citizens to act responsibly and save electrical and heating energy – the ministry says.

The announcement reminds that, in the October 2022 – January 2023 period, the citizens realized electrical energy savings of 10% and adds that the state will continue subsidizing the improvement of energy efficiency throughout the country, and a new public invitation will be opened soon.

The ministry also announced that the prices of electrical energy and gas for households in Serbia “will remain among the lowest ones in Europe, primarily thanks to the payments of the state, which wants to secure a smooth supply, with a maximum preservation of the citizens’ living standard.”
