Movement for Protection of Consumers: Electricity Price Increase by 20% Unacceptable and Unrealistic

The president of the Movement for Protection of Consumers, Petar Bogosavljevic, has stated that the new electricity price increase, arising from the arrangement of the Government of Serbia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for 2023, is unacceptable and unrealistic.

Bogosavljevic stated for the Danas daily that a price increase of around 20% would be unsustainable, because the purchasing power and the living standard of the citizens would be additionally reduced.

– This kind of an arrangement harms the consumers and only benefits the IMF, whose aim is to secure a regular loan repayment. The Government of Serbia should not have opted for the execution of such a concept – he said.

According to him, the Government of Serbia should have opted for an arrangement that would have enabled the reduction of costs and the rationalization of operations at EPS.

– That would have made it possible for an electricity price increase not to be necessary, and I believe that such an option, which would certainly be sustainable, would have been supported by the IMF – Bogosavljevic believes.
