Possible construction of 12.500 flats at location of abandoned barracks in Serbia
As stated in the UIPS statement, abandoned empty military facilities have continued deteriorating over time, while, as they say, in Serbia, thousands of military and civilian people, refugees and socially vulnerable people do not have a permanently solved issue of the roof over their heads.
- Cities generally have no space for construction, and the greatest potential is in barracks and abandoned military bases throughout Serbia. They have complete infrastructure and are in excellent locations in Serbia. Their value is estimated at around EUR 1 billion which is enough to build about 12,500 flats – UIPS says.
As
they explain, some of the barracks can be changed for housing care purposes or new
facilities at these locations and offer them at favorable conditions.
- UIPS asks competent authorities, first of all the Ministry of Defense and Economy, to speed up this process. Is it really so difficult to get a win-win situation all sides, when at least here the solution is so clear and logical - they ask at UIPS and state that only good will and efficiency are needed.
They remind of examples of Slovenia and Croatia, which, they say, successfully changed the purpose of former barracks.
