German "king of meat" is coming to Serbia - Giant Tonnies is considering investments in our country

On Saturday, September 27, 2014, the President of the Government of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said upon his touring the German food company, Tonnies, that the company is welcomed in Serbia and that it will have support of both local community and the entire state for initiating production chain in our country, the Government of Serbia announced at its official website.
As it was stated in the announcement, Vucic, said that during the negotiations so far with the Tonnies’ representatives a good deal of future cooperation has been agreement and that everything that has been lost in the cattle fund of Serbia in the previous10-15 years, can be compensated with the investment in the next two years.
President and the owner of the German company, Clemes Tonnies, said that the company is interested in starting up production in Serbia which would increase not only meat production but cattle fund as well and it would develop the entire Serbian agriculture.
- We have to develop family structure of farms, introduce new technologies and provide governmental support for that. This is the only way to use this mutual opportunity - Tonnies outlined.
He added that he met the Prime Minister Vucic a few months ago and discussed with him about what could be done so that they would help Serbia on its way to EU.
Family company "Tonnies" was set up in 1971 near Gelzenkirchen, and today it is the biggest European meat producer and exporter. During the year, 17 million pigs go through the company production chain and annual turnover totals EUR 5, 6billion, it was added at the website of the Government of Serbia.
The President of the Government of Serbia said the investment cold enable employment of 8.000 people – production staff and associates.
