Jagodina invests EUR 4.5 million in sewerage and water supply system upgrade

Jagodina's public utility company Standard has started implementing the "Water Supply and Sewerage" project that is financed by the German development bank KfW with EUR 4.5 million, said Standard General Manager Dragan Lukic.

Implementation of "Water Supply and Sewerage in Medium-Sized Municipalities in Serbia," a joint project of the governments of Serbia and Germany, commenced this fall in Leskovac, Vranje, Aleksinac, Pirot and Trstenik in addition to Jagodina. The agreement is valued at EUR 25 million.

- Jagodina will have 20 kilometers of cement-asbestos pipes older than ten years replaced as well as a water source in Ribar reconstructed and three new wells with a capacity of 90 liters of water per second built - Lukic told the press.

Thanks to the engagement of Jagodina City Assembly Speaker Dragan Markovic-Palma, it was also agreed to implement one of the most complex projects - reconstruction of the Wastewater Treatment Center valued at RSD 6.5 million, Lukic stressed.

He added that the reconstruction of the Wastewater Treatment Center would commence in late 2014, adding that 95 percent of the required funding would be donated by the German government.

In line with a decision of the City Assembly, Jagodina Mayor Ratko Stevanovic signed an agreement in June to use KfW funds.

After signing that agreement, Stevanovic told Tanjug news agency that KfW Bank would donate 30 percent of all the funds granted to Jagodina, whereas the rest would be repaid over a period of 15 years with a minimum interest rate and a grace period of three years.
