Second largest Italian bank, Intesa Sanpaolo named Carl Messina as the new Executive Director.
Messina will replace Enrico Tommaso Cucchiani, who filed his resignation after a conflict with shareholders, according to the New York's agency Bloomberg.
Former General Manager and Chief of Retail Department, Carl Messina will have a difficult task of dealing with the growing extent of bad loans and the longest recession of Italy in the last two decades.
Cucchiani (63) has been managing Intesa for 21 months and during that time he got into conflict with certain shareholders, for trying to decrease expenses and reorganize branches network.
The latest news caused a downfall of Intesa shares by even 5,6% at the Milan Stock Exchange, which is the biggest fall of the company's shares value since March, 25.
Cucchiani's resignation followed the bank's net incomes fall by 75% at year's level, in the second trimester, which is 116 million EUR.
