Fourth phase of revitalization of Bajina Basta hydroelectric power station kicks off


The third revitalized generator in the hydroelectric power station (HE) Bajina Basta was ceremoniously put in operation on Tuesday (9 October 2012), when the fourth phase of revitalization of this power station started, the Electric Power Company (EPS) said in a release.
The total value of the HE Bajina Basta revitalization project, which is one of the most significant investments for the energy system of Serbia, amounts to EUR 77 million, 30 million euros of which have been provided from a loan granted by KfW Bank, whereas the EPS has contributed EUR 47 million from the proceeds of electricity sales.
Once the revitalization work is completed, the installed capacity of HE Bajina Basta will be increased from 368 MW to 420 MW, while its life will be extended by 30 to 40 years. The annual electricity production will grow by 40 million kWh. The work on the fourth generator should be finished in August 2013.
