Competitiveness "cuts" surplus - Company "U. S. Steel - Srbija" starts resolving problem with supernumerary workers


In "U. S. Steel - Srbija" in Smederevo, the President of the Association of Independent Unions of Serbia (SSSS), Siniša Prelić, confirmed that the management of that company delivered the Program for surplus manpower to the Unions for the sake of "attaining of more competitive level of manpower".
Prelić said that the announcement of such program was not surprise when having in mind that the deadline of three years would expire on September 12, 2006, prior to which the buyer was obliged to keep the number of workers "taken over" from the former "Sartid".
- The employer obeys the Law and he also accepted our request that the workers are not dismissed in a rough way, as it was the case in some other companies in Serbia – Prelić explained.
Company "U. S. Steel - Srbija" and the enterprises in its structure announced that they will conduct the program for resolving of problem with surplus manpower for sake of "attaining of more competitive level of manpower" and they offered to pay the severance pay to all those who meet the criteria for retirement prior to year 2009.
