At the end of September this year, insured bank deposits in Serbia were EUR 3.4 billion higher compared to the same time in 2025, reaching a total of EUR 37.5 billion, the Deposit Insurance Agency announced today. The statement noted that the upward trend in bank deposits has been continuous since 2008. From a figure of EUR 7.3 billion at the end of 2008, total insured bank deposits have grown more than fivefold to date.

The average growth rate of insured deposits over the past 18 years has been approximately 9.6% per annum.

It is noted that two-thirds of all insured deposits consist of deposits held by individuals, that is, private citizens.

The deposit insurance system provides full coverage for 99% of individual savers, as the total amount they hold in any single bank does not exceed EUR 50,000.

A significant increase in dinar-denominated deposits by the population has been recorded, reflecting faster growth in dinar savings compared to savings held in euros.

In observance of World Savings Week, the Deposit Insurance Agency reminded the public that funds held in banks by citizens, entrepreneurs, and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are protected by law up to an amount of EUR 50,000.

– This means that the Deposit Insurance Agency would, within a maximum of seven business days, begin the payout of insured deposits, up to a maximum of EUR 50,000, to depositors of a bank undergoing bankruptcy proceedings – the statement reads.
