Close to one hundred billion dinars and more than 15 billion in FX savings in banks

Dinar savings have increased more than 11 times in the past 13 years and, according to the Secretary General of the Association of Serbian Banks, Marina Papadakis, are approaching the amount of 100 billion dinars. In the same period, FX savings doubled and amounted to EUR 15.7 billion in the middle of the year, it was said at the conference “Savings in Banks and Alternatives: Motives and Habits of Citizens,” organized on the occasion of October 31, the World Savings Day.

The share of dinars in total savings in June 2012 was, according to Marina Papadakis, only 1.9%, and in June this year it was slightly less than 10 percent.

Acting Director of the Deposit Insurance Agency Ljubica Pantelic reminded that savings in banks were insured up to EUR 50,000 per individual deposit.

– Savings in banks are protected by an insurance system of up to EUR 50,000, which is an important pillar of security for users of banking services. At the same time, investments of small investors who trade in financial instruments are also insured in case their intermediary on the capital market runs into serious problems. It is important that citizens know how they can preserve and increase the value of their savings, as well as to be as well informed as possible about the safety and profitability of each available option – stated Pantelic at the conference organized by the Deposit Insurance Agency, the Association of Serbian Banks and the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.
