According to him, the tower surpassed the Central Park Tower, the tallest residential building in the world, which is located in New York and is about 472 meters high, writes People magazine.
When completed, Jeddah Tower is expected to reach a height of about 1,000 meters, or 3,280 feet. This would surpass Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which currently holds the record for the tallest building in the world at 828 meters.
The project is signed by the Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture architectural bureau, and the completion of the works is expected in August 2028.
The skyscraper is being built on the coast of the Red Sea, and it will contain apartments, business and office spaces, a luxury hotel and a viewpoint at the highest height in the world.
Inspiration in palm fronds and aerodynamics
The recognizable form of the tower is inspired by palm leaves, characteristic of Saudi Arabia, but also by technological progress that enables the construction of an object of such scale.
As the architects previously explained to Architectural Digest, the tower`s geometry starts from a tripod-shaped base, the parts of which gradually separate towards the top. Such a design is related to the behavior of the wind around the building and the effort to respond to the challenges of construction at extreme heights.
- This is a step towards even greater heights - said Gordon Gill, one of the project`s architects, regarding the latest progress of the work.
The construction of the tower has been intensified again after several years of stagnation, and the project represents one of the most ambitious construction projects in Saudi Arabia.
