The Government of Serbia has approved the release of 5,000 tons of Euro-diesel from mandatory reserves onto the market, announced Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, the Minister of Mining and Energy in the caretaker government.

She said that the state was taking necessary measures to protect citizens so they did not feel the impact of the global energy crisis.

– That is why we decided to release a portion of Euro-diesel stocks, approximately 5,000 tons, from state reserves onto the market. Earlier this week, I noted that we expected very high consumption in October, around 205,000 tons, and that companies had stopped importing due to high market diesel costs resulting from global conflicts and disruptions, compounded by high logistics costs caused by low water levels on the Danube. Consequently, we acted as quickly as possible. We expect contracts with companies to be signed within the next day or two, with withdrawals beginning shortly thereafter – said Djedovic Handanovic.

She also pointed out that, despite this release, stock levels in state storage facilities would remain high, as the state had planned ahead and filled its depots in a timely manner, and that the reserves of petroleum products had doubled since 2022.
