Belgrade Fair celebrating 89th anniversary

On September 11, the Belgrade Fair will officially celebrate its 89th anniversary, marking almost nine decades during which it has developed into one of the key economic pillars of the capital and the leading fair center in this part of Europe, the Fair announced.

Founded on the eve of World War II with the primary goal of integrating the domestic economy into international trade flows, the fair has undergone radical transformations, moving from its original location at the Old Fairgrounds to a recognizable domed complex on the right bank of the Sava River.

– Over the decades of operation, this institution has outgrown the framework of a classic exhibition space and has emerged as a regional platform for negotiating large business arrangements. Hundreds of thousands of exhibitors from all over the world and tens of millions of visitors have passed through its gates, while events such as the Technical Fair, the Construction Fair and the International Automotive Fair have become key venues for the premiere of technological innovations and the conclusion of contracts – the statement says.

In addition to industrial formats, it is added that the fair has also built a strong cultural identity, primarily through the organization of the Book Fair, which for decades has been considered one of the most visited and most important cultural events in Southeast Europe.

– Thanks to the specific architecture and multifunctionality of its halls, the Belgrade exhibition complex has also functioned for years as a space for large international conferences, sports events and mass entertainment programs. Today, in the era of general digitalization and accelerated changes in the global market, the Belgrade Fair is facing the challenge of adapting to new economic trends. Although modern communications and virtual platforms are changing the way of doing business, direct meetings of businessmen within the fair halls still remain an irreplaceable format for direct cooperation and the development of the domestic and regional economy – the Belgrade Fair concluded in a statement.
