Strategic gas infrastructure to get its team – Government forms steering committee for World Bank-financed projects

The Government of Serbia has decided to establish the Steering Committee for the Strategic Gas Infrastructure and Institutional Strengthening Project in the Republic of Serbia, which is financed by a World Bank loan.

Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, Minister of Mining and Energy, has been appointed as the chairwoman of this Steering Committee, and the board will include 10 other members from various state departments and energy sector companies such as Srbijagas, Transportgas and Gas Infrastruktura.

As specified, the Steering Committee of the project is being established to oversee the regular implementation of activities. One of the tasks of the board will be to facilitate coordination with other ministries, the regulatory authority, local governments and other relevant entities.

The Steering Committee will be provided with professional and administrative-technical support by the Project Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Mining and Energy.

Let us remind that when it comes to the projects that will be financed from the World Bank loan, as announced by the relevant ministry this summer, it is primarily the expansion of existing gas capacities, but also the construction of a new Tilva gas storage facility, with associated gas pipelines. The construction of the Mokrin-Belgrade gas pipeline is also planned, as well as the construction of the first section of the Nis-Velika Plana gas pipeline, as well as the preparation of technical documentation for subsequent projects.
