The agreement on the design and construction of the North Macedonian section of the gas interconnector with Serbia was signed in Skopje by Nedim Rama, CEO of AD Nomagas, and CEO of Rapid Bild, Toni Karanfilovski, in the presence of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozinovska, according to North Macedonian media.

After the contract award procedure, the offer of Rapid Build, worth EUR 29.4 million, was selected as the most favorable. It is a turnkey contract, according to the FIDIC model, which includes urban planning, design, construction and obtaining a permit for use, Nedim Rama said after signing the contract.

The Macedonian section of the interconnector will be 22.4 kilometers long and 500 millimeters in diameter. The starting point will be at the Klehovce block station, and the final point will be at the border with Serbia, near the village of Sopot. Five auxiliary facilities will also be built as part of the project: the main interconnector metering station, a reduction station, a block station and two receiving and dispatching stations for cleaning. The planned technical capacity of the gas pipeline is up to 160,000 cubic meters of gas per hour, with the possibility of two-way flows, and the deadline for the full implementation of the project is the fourth quarter of 2028.

Mickoski estimated that the construction of the interconnector with Greece and Serbia will provide the country with full vertical energy connectivity.

– We are a landlocked country and with projects like this, when we connect to ports, in this case like the terminal in Alexandroupoli, when we connect to the port of Thessaloniki, with the pipeline and our OKTA refinery, when we build interconnectors in the field of electricity supply and connection with our neighbors, we thereby improve our geostrategic position as a country – said Mickoski.
