Nis choosing locations for construction of new public garages: Public-private partnerships also announced

The City of Nis has begun drafting a study that should determine the locations for the construction of new parking lots and parking garages, said Mayor Dragoslav Pavlovic.

As he stated in the show “Ask the Mayor” on Nis TV, after the completion of the study, the designing of the facilities, obtaining permits and the start of implementation will follow.

– The study will soon be finished and we will have precise locations where parking lots could be built in the city – said Pavlovic.

One of the potential locations is the area along the Boulevard, which was suggested by a viewer during the show. Pavlovic assessed that this area could be suitable for a large garage due to its proximity to the center, quay and residential buildings.

Before implementation, it would be necessary to resolve the property and legal relations, because part of the land is owned by the City, while some plots are privately owned.

The mayor announced two possible financing models. In some locations, garages would be built with money from the city budget, while for others a public-private partnership could be applied.

In that case, the City would provide the land, while the private partner would finance the construction and manage the garage for the period defined by the contract.

– According to this model, it is possible to build more parking garages in more locations and I am sure that this will help traffic in the city center – said Pavlovic.
