Glass lookout point on Kablar opened at 879 meters above sea level – Ticket costs 500 dinars

The glass lookout point Kablar, located at 879 meters above sea level, below the peak of Mount Kablar near Cacak, as a new tourist attraction of the Ovcar-Kablar Gorge, was opened yesterday.

– This is the first glass lookout point in Serbia and one of the most attractive ones in Europe – said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during the tour and invited everyone to visit it.

He emphasized that the construction of the lookout point was a tourism and development project and that the investment should pay off within a year, through the influx of tourists, i.e. the collection of tickets, which would cost 500 dinars, but also other spending in the area.

– In the past few years, we have invested a billion dinars in roads, parking, promenades, the development of Ovcar Banja, a nature center, an amphitheater, a pier, tourist infrastructure and the lookout point – said Vucic.

He emphasized that he was proud that the state had proven through this project that economic development and nature protection could go hand in hand.

The lookout received a usage permit from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, which fulfilled all the legally prescribed conditions for its official use, and Vucic said that the durability of the lookout had been tested at 132 tons.

The construction of the lookout began in 2023 and cost about one billion dinars, of which 800 million dinars were financed by the Republic of Serbia, whereas Cacak financed about 200 million dinars.

The lookout area is 1,000 square meters, of which the two platforms made of multilayer glass have an area of 200 square meters, while the wooden staircase and the accompanying platforms have an area of 92 square meters.

The indoor area of the center with an information desk covers 200 square meters, and the roof area, which is covered with solar panels, is about 48 square meters.

The lookout offers a panoramic view of the meanders of the West Morava River and the Ovcar-Kablar Gorge, and has a capacity of 100 visitors per hour.

The construction of the lookout has been opposed from the beginning by environmental activists, opposition political parties and numerous citizens who have held several protests in Cacak due to the “urbanization, concretization and destruction of Kablar,” which, as they stated, is “an exceptional natural asset created over a million years.”

They have held several protests against the construction of the lookout in the center of Cacak and on Kablar, which have also resulted in clashes with the police.

A large number of Kablar residents have supported the construction of the lookout, due to the new roads, electricity network and expectations that it will improve tourism.

Energoprojekt was responsible for the work on the lookout.

When the contract for the construction of the lookout was signed in March 2022, it was said that the value of the entire project, including the preparation of project documentation and the construction of the facility, would be around two million euros.

As stated by the Assistant Mayor of Cacak Milos Stevanic, after the completion of the works and the tests conducted, the facility received a usage permit from the Ministry of Construction. According to him, the smaller platform was tested with a load of 50 tons, and the larger one with 82 tons.

The entrance fee for the lookout will cost 500 dinars, and an info center will also operate within the complex, while security will be present 24 hours a day. Working hours will be defined later.

Stevanic stated that the construction of the lookout was part of the wider development of the Ovcar-Kablar Gorge. So far, as he said, the access road from Ovcar Banja to the lookout has been built, the rail station has been reconstructed, the Nature Center has been built, the marina has been renovated and the trail in Medjuvrsje has been arranged.

He added that the next planned projects were the construction of a water supply and sewage network, for which the City of Cacak expected to receive a building permit.

According to data from the Cacak Tourism Organization presented by Stevanic, the previous lookout was visited by around 100,000 tourists annually, while the new glass lookout is estimated to attract around 300,000 visitors annually.
