Serbia Currently Designing Around 800 km of Road Corridors: Motorway Links Planned Toward Kotroman and Romanian Border, Danube Corridor Extension and New Expressway to the East

More than 800 kilometers of new motorways and expressways are currently being designed in Serbia. Four future motorway links and several expressways are in the design phase.

One of the motorways being designed, according to Miodrag Poledica, Assistant Director of Roads of Serbia, is the motorway from Belgrade toward Vrsac and the border with Romania.

- Our goal is to connect Serbia with all countries in the region through motorway links, and Romania is one of those countries. As for this particular motorway, we need to complete the design and secure funding for its construction - Poledica pointed out.

The second motorway currently in the design phase is the continuation of the Belgrade Bypass, the so-called Section C of the bypass, approximately 31 km long. It is a multimodal motorway and railway corridor intended to extend both the railway and motorway bypasses.

- We also have two important motorways in the design phase that will connect Pozega with Boljare, on the border with Montenegro, and, on the other side, with Kotroman, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The section to Kotroman is approximately 60 km long, while the future motorway toward Boljare will be around 107 km long - Poledica said.

As for expressways, one of those currently being designed is the extension of the Danube Corridor from Golubac toward Donji Milanovac and Brza Palanka.

- This corridor is 90 kilometers long, and we hope to continue designing one branch toward Kladovo and another toward Negotin - Poledica stated.

Another corridor in the design phase is the expressway from Kraljevo toward Raska and Novi Pazar, with a branch from Raska toward Jarinje. These two corridors have a combined length of approximately 94 km.

Another corridor currently in the design phase is the expressway from Paracin toward Zajecar and Negotin, with a total length of 140 km. The Spatial Plan for the Special Purpose Area for this infrastructure corridor, which will connect eastern Serbia with central Serbia, is currently undergoing public review.

Poledica also stated that the preliminary design for the expressway from Ostruznica to Obrenovac is nearing completion, with the aim of widening the existing Obrenovac Road to four traffic lanes.
