Serbia plans to reestablish a rail line between Belgrade and the Italian city of Trieste, announced the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Aleksandra Sofronijevic.

She discussed the reestablishment of this rail connection with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Italy, Matteo Salvini.

As she said, Serbia has this project planned in its development program until 2035.

The topic of the conversation was also the work of professional drivers, in connection with which Sofronijevic stated that Serbian professional drivers would be granted a D visa not long after. The aforementioned visa for truck drivers means a longer stay and work in a foreign country.

– Special thanks for understanding a great hardship for professional drivers from Serbia and three other Balkan countries, which is the time spent in the Schengen zone. Italy expressed full understanding for obtaining the so-called D visas and we agreed that all this will happen in the short term – Sofronijevic pointed out after the meeting.

As she pointed out, this is not only an issue for Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia, but also an issue that directly affects the economic and supply chains of all other European countries.
