Vucic: Plan to complete Vojvodina Smile section to Kljajicevo by end of June 2028

The Vojvodina Smile section to the Kljajicevo section of the expressway should be completed by end of June 2028, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic during a tour of the construction works on the section of the expressway that will stretch from Backi Breg to Srpska Crnja.

The total length of the expressway from the border crossing with Hungary (Backi Breg)-Sombor-Kula-Vrbas-Srbobran-Becej-Novi Becej-Kikinda-the border crossing with Romania (Srpska Crnja) is 185.5 kilometers, and it is designed for a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

The road is divided into two sectors and eight sections. A framework commercial agreement was signed with the Azerbaijani company Azvirt for five sections with a length of 94.2 kilometers from Backi Breg, through Sombor, Kljajicevo, Sivac, Crvenka, Kula, Vrbas to Srbobran.

Vucic told representatives of the Azvirt company that the 11.4 kilometers to Kljajicevo were important and to talk to “their people” in Azerbaijan if they could to finance a part of it.

– Let’s try to finish it by June 2028. We will help with that, you provide a part and we will provide a part – said Vucic.

A contract on the design and execution of works for the first 23 kilometers of this road was also signed, and Vucic said that the deadline was April 2028.

The construction of 11 interchanges, 32 bridges, 34 overpasses, and 12 culverts is planned on the sections of the expressway. The construction of three surface roundabouts is also planned.
