Red Star Belgrade announces major stadium reconstruction – Registration of property rights on the land crucial

Zvezdan Terzic, General Manager of Red Star Belgrade, announced at the club’s Assembly that the management had invested more than EUR 15 million in infrastructure in the previous period, including a training center and a modern building with a medical block.

– We have completely renovated the infrastructure of the training center, improved the working conditions of the first team and the Youth School, built a new modern building with a medical block and provided new training fields. However, we are facing another major infrastructure challenge and a project of strategic importance for the future of the club - a complete reconstruction of the “Rajko Mitic” stadium. Our goal is for Marakana to retain its history, tradition and recognizable identity, but at the same time to be adapted to the highest demands of the new era and a new audience that is growing and becoming increasingly demanding – Terzic announced.

He stated that the implementation of this project was planned in several phases.

– The first phase concerns the resolution of urban planning issues, which we expect to be completed by spring of next year at the latest. This will be followed by the phase of resolving property and legal issues in the stadium area. In this part of the process, the participation and decision-making of the competent state authorities is necessary, bearing in mind that Red Star Belgrade is registered as an association of citizens, which in the existing legal framework raises questions regarding the possibility of registering property rights on the land. Resolving these issues is an important prerequisite for the implementation of the project.

He said that he hoped that Red Star Belgrade, with the support of the state and compliance with all legal and regulatory procedures, would successfully overcome the challenges and create the conditions for the reconstruction of the stadium to become one of the most important projects in the club’s modern history.

– We want Red Star Belgrade to get a stadium worthy of its history, its fans and the results it achieves on the European stage. Just as we have shown in previous years that we can develop the club in sports and financially, we are confident that we will successfully implement this major infrastructure project that will mark the next stage of Red Star Belgrade’s development – said Terzic.
