Red Star Belgrade Wants Modern Stadium in Current Location – New Training Center Might Be Built in Surcin

Red Star Belgrade is supposed to get a modern stadium in the current location and a new, bigger training center in a location near the Belgrade Airport, stated the CEO of Red Star Belgrade, Zvezdan Terzic, at the regular session of the Assembly of this football club.

Certain media have reported that the plan is for the new stadium to be built in Surcin, but these are not the club’s intentions after all.

– In the long term, I believe that we have to solve the strategic issue of our location, that is, a modern stadium in the current location and a new and bigger training center that we would build close to the Belgrade Airport. Our stadium is located on land of 16.5 ha, whose market value is over EUR 100 million (after the adoption of the urban planning requirements and the solving of the property issues). The entire area around the stadium is a dead and unused capital which is not in the function of the development of our club. I am deeply convinced that Red Star Belgrade has to have a new modern stadium and that the keeping of the current status is not sustainable in the long term if we want the club to develop – said Terzic, according to the website of Red Star Belgrade.

He added that the club actively worked on meeting all the pre-conditions, and that their implementation requires a wider general consensus of the entire community around the club.

– Of course, the final decision about this issue will be adopted by the Assembly of the club – he said.

Terzic pointed out that the “Medico Block” and a new field with artificial grass, which the team had lacked, were being completed at that moment.

– Red Star Belgrade has invested over EUR 10 million in the stadium and the sports infrastructure. We are satisfied with what the stadium looks like, because it meets all the UEFA standards for Champions League matches. However, regardless of the fact that we are tied to the glorious history and tradition of our stadium, we have to be aware that, if we want a full stadium during the matches of the local league as well, we have to offer new content to the people, a new experience and an increased comfort. The statistics say that, at the newly built stadiums throughout Europe, the number of spectators at the matches of those clubs has doubled or tripled, and this has also increased the revenues of those clubs several times. If we want Red Star Belgrade to develop further, we have to have a new modern stadium – pointed out Terzic.
