Preparatory works related to the construction of a tunnel that will connect Belgrade’s Sava and Danube slopes, specifically Kamenicka Street near the Faculty of Economics with Boulevard of Despot Stefan, have officially begun, according to Beogradska hronika.
Although a construction permit has been secured, works are currently being carried out near Boulevard of Despot Stefan involving the relocation of water supply, electrical, and other utility installations.
Construction of the tunnel tubes is expected to begin next year, when the so-called “moles” (tunnel boring machines) are also expected to arrive. According to Miroslav Cuckovic, the works could continue well until 2030.
Belgrade City Manager Miroslav Cuckovic told Radio Television of Serbia that construction itself will begin next year, first around the descent into the tunnel from the Danube side, and that the works will not affect the everyday life of nearby residents.
