New rail bridge over Tamis River worth EUR 12.5 million opened – Upcoming construction of road bridge also announced

The new rail bridge over the Tamis River, between Orlovat and Tomasevac, 120 meters long, in the construction of which EUR 12.5 million was invested, was opened yesterday.

– This bridge will enable trains between Orlovat and Tomasevac, on the entire Pancevo-Zrenjanin-Kikinda route, to travel safer and faster than 100 kilometers per hour – said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who attended the ceremony and emphasized that the new bridge was a signal for additional investments in Banat.

He pointed out that all the companies that had participated in the construction of the bridge were from Serbia.

Vucic also showed the decision on the use permit for the bridge, issued, as he stated, a month before, commenting on the statement from the SSP party that the bridge was being opened without a use permit.

He also announced the construction of a road bridge over the Tamis River, connecting Pancevo with Zrenjanin, as well as the reconstruction of the Tomasevac road and the replacement of woodwork in the elementary school.

He added that construction of the fourth section of the Zrenjanin bypass would begin not long after and that it would cost 10 million euros, and he stated that a way to replace the water supply network in Zrenjanin, causing 37 percent of losses, was also being considered.

Vucic stated that the Belgrade-Zrenjanin highway would be completed in two and a half years, which would mean that traveling between the two cities would take 35 minutes.

The new Tomasevac bridge is located on the regional, single-track, non-electrified railroad Pancevo Main Station – Zrenjanin – Kikinda – state border, whose modernization is planned.

500 tons of steel and 2,600 cubic meters of concrete were used for the construction, and 170 tons of rails and 1,800 sleepers were placed on the railway section on an embankment stabilized with cement, in which 24,000 cubic meters of material were used.

The Serbian Railways Infrastructure company began construction of the new bridge on May 31, 2024, and signed the construction contract with Extra-Auto Transport, in a joint bid with the companies Briken, ZGOP and Trioprojekt.

The new rail bridge is located not far from the existing rail-road bridge between Orlovat and Tomasevac, built in 1880, which will serve pedestrians and cyclists.
