Novi Sad planning EUR 105 million project – First details of 86 ha solar thermal system published

The Novi Sad Public Enterprise Urbanizam (Urban Planning) has put changes to the plan that open up space for the implementation of a large solar thermal system within the PUE Novosadska toplana complex up for early public review.

The plan covers 86.25 hectares in the northeastern part of Novi Sad, where the thermal power plant (TE-TO) is already located, as well as areas planned for its expansion and new energy facilities.

The focus is on a project of national importance, a solar thermal system worth EUR 105 million, for which a contract has already been signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The planned investment includes a solar collector field on about 7.4 hectares, two seasonal heat storage facilities on about 15 hectares, and the accompanying technical infrastructure.

In total, the solar thermal system complex will occupy about 29.7 hectares.

At the same time, the plan envisages further expansion of the existing TE-TO complex (about 19 ha), where the construction of a new gas-steam unit is planned, part of a broader transition to a more modern energy system for the city.

Most of the land included in the plan is currently undeveloped and used for agriculture.

The ultimate goal, as stated, is the integration of renewable energy sources into the district heating system and the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels, with the parallel development of the existing energy infrastructure.
