Founding of Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Information Security planned in Kragujevac

Kragujevac could gain another higher education institution in the coming years - the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Information Security. A working meeting on the topic of considering the needs of the economy of the city of Kragujevac for the establishment of such a faculty was held at the Regional Chamber of Commerce of the Sumadija and Pomoravlje Administrative District.

– The city’s position is clear - we advocate the establishment of this faculty because we are aware of the times we live in and the changes brought about by the development of artificial intelligence – said Dejan Ruzic, Deputy Mayor of Kragujevac, and pointed out that predictions showed that 40% of the professions that future generations would perform did not exist at that moment.

– It is important to listen to the position of the economy, large companies operating in our city, and to see if we think in the same way – said Ruzic.

The Director of the Regional Chamber of Commerce of the Sumadija and Pomoravlje Administrative District, Predrag Lucic, emphasized that this was an extremely important initiative, considering that companies that applied artificial intelligence tools were recording greater efficiency and competitiveness. He reminded that part of the economy in Kragujevac had already started implementing those technologies, and that the Serbian Chamber of Commerce had recognized the importance of digitalization, as evidenced by the development of several platforms based on artificial intelligence.

During the meeting, the importance of the existing infrastructure in Kragujevac was particularly emphasized, primarily the State Data Center, within which the first national platform for the application and development of artificial intelligence has already been established, as well as the Innovation District, which additionally strengthens the development of advanced technologies and cooperation between science and industry. The strong support of the Government of Serbia, as well as the academic community, for such initiatives was also emphasized. The University of Kragujevac has been recognized as a key partner to the economy and an important carrier of future development in the field of artificial intelligence and information security, said a statement by the City of Kragujevac.

The meeting participants agreed that there were a clear need and strong support from the economy for the establishment of a Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Information Security, which would contribute to strengthening human resources and further improving the competitiveness of the local economy.
