State to introduce mandatory written contracts for purchase of wheat, milk, fruit, vegetables, honey...

The Government of Serbia adopted a Decision at today’s session on determining agricultural products from sectors in which the signing of a contract between an agricultural producer and a processor or purchaser is mandatory, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.

The decision stipulates that for each delivery of agricultural products by an agricultural producer to a processor or purchaser, it is necessary to conclude a written contract in the following sectors:

1) Cereals, for mercantile wheat and mercantile corn;
2) Fruit and vegetables, for the following fresh agricultural products: tomatoes, onions and garlic, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers and gherkins, peppers, apples, cherries, plums, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries;
3) Fruit and vegetable products, for: frozen raspberries, blackberries, cherries, blueberries and plums;
4) Beef and veal, for livestock for slaughter;
5) Milk and dairy products, for raw cow, sheep and goat milk;
6) Pork, for live pigs for slaughter;
7) Bee products, for natural honey and other beekeeping products;
8) Other products, namely, for mercantile potatoes.

– The aim of this measure is to regulate market relations, greater legal certainty for agricultural producers, as well as more transparent and stable business conditions in the agricultural and food sector – said Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamocic. The decision was made in accordance with the Law on the Regulation of the Market for Agricultural Products and enters into force on the eighth day from the date of publication in the “Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia.”
