German company Carl Kuhne considering opening new factory in Serbia

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamocic discussed with representatives of the German company Carl Kuhne the possibilities of new investments in Serbia, including the construction of a vegetable processing factory and the expansion of existing production.

At a meeting at the Ministry, attended by the company’s General Manager, Josef Sebastian Kaindl, it was emphasized that the potential investment could significantly expand production capacities and further connect domestic agricultural production with the modern processing industry.

Glamocic assessed that the interest of the German company was an indicator that Serbia had a stable and promising agricultural sector, as well as room for new investments.

– We discussed concrete steps that would enable the expansion of production capacities and the strengthening of ties between domestic agricultural production and the modern processing industry. This is an important step towards the development of our agricultural sector and new opportunities for domestic producers – said the minister.

According to him, the new vegetable processing plant could contribute to strengthening Serbia’s export potential and creating new jobs.

The Carl Kuhne company, headquartered in Hamburg, is one of the leading European producers of vinegar, pickled gherkins, mustard and sauces. It has been operating in Serbia since 2017 through a representative office in Sremska Mitrovica and cooperates with domestic subcontractors who produce gherkins, peppers and horseradish for export on significant areas.

During the meeting, the results of the previous cooperation with domestic producers were also presented, and the example of a subcontractor from Mandjelos near Sremska Mitrovica, which produces gherkins on dozens of hectares and plans to expand pepper and horseradish production, was particularly highlighted.

One of the topics was also securing seasonal labor from abroad, given the shortage of workers during the agricultural season. Company representatives stated that, in addition to 25 permanent employees, they needed more than a hundred workers during the season.

At the meeting, it was agreed that discussions on future cooperation would continue, and that Minister Glamocic would visit the agricultural farm of one of the cooperatives during the upcoming harvest season.
