Ministry on Mineral Exploration at Avala and Kosmaj: If a request is submitted, it does not mean it has been approved, nor that it will be

The Ministry of Mining and Energy has issued a denial regarding information about metal exploration on Kosmaj and Avala.

The Ministry’s statement is transmitted in full:

- Regarding claims that appeared in certain media that the opening of metal mines is planned in the areas of Avala and Kosmaj, the Ministry of Mining and Energy points out that such claims are incorrect and represent a misinterpretation of information submitted during the process of drafting the spatial plan.

We recall that the Ministry of Mining and Energy previously clearly stated that the opening of mines in the areas of Avala and Kosmaj is not planned, and that certain media reports are drawing unfounded conclusions that do not arise from the relevant documents.

We particularly emphasize that no permit has been issued for geological exploration of metallic mineral resources in the area in question. As part of providing information to the competent institutions for the purposes of drafting the Spatial Plan for the Special Purpose Area Avala–Kosmaj, among other things, information was submitted relating to requests for geological exploration.

However, the mere fact that a request has been submitted does not mean that it has been approved, nor that it will be approved. In this regard, no geological exploration works are possible.

The Ministry of Mining and Energy calls on the media and the public to use verified and accurate information when reporting and to avoid presenting unfounded claims that may mislead the public.
