A pot full of silver we didn’t know existed lies between Medvednik and Bobija – Australians found it in the former Tisovik lead mine

Australian mining company Middle Island Resources has announced new discoveries at its Bobija project in western Serbia. 30 kilometers from Valjevo, in the Tisovik area, a former lead and zinc mine between the Medvednik and Bobija mountains, the latest results of soil analysis and test drilling have shown widespread silver anomalies with peak values of over 7 g/t Ag, as well as lead, zinc and antimony, Australian media reported.

The analyses show that the anomalies extend along a geological belt about five kilometers long, open to the north and to previously untouched sectors. This means that there is a possibility for further discoveries and additional quantities of metals, making Tisovik one of the most promising polymetallic targets in the region.

The company plans to continue an intensive exploration phase that includes additional soil sampling, geophysical surveys to map underground formations, trenching and drilling to confirm the continuity and depth of mineralization, as well as expanding the field team for parallel work at multiple locations.

During the 20th century, the Tisovik mine was known in Yugoslavia for the exploitation of high-quality lead and zinc, while silver and antimony were not registered as significant metals at the time.

As a reminder, Middle Island Resources, by taking over the Australian company Konstantin Resources in September last year, became the owner of 14 licenses for mineral exploration in Serbia, on as much as 62,000 hectares, which is more than any other company has in our country.

The licenses on Bobija, as announced at the time, are the focus of this mining company’s exploration, which is primarily focused on gold and copper, but also on silver, lead and zinc.

The Australians had already started drilling on Bobija in October, announcing that the old barite mine on that mountain contained as much gold and silver as the Vares mine in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the end of the year, they found continuous mineralization of gold, silver, lead and zinc in several wells, with intervals reaching over 50 meters, and the best sections, as announced, included zones with about 1 to 3 grams of gold per ton of ore.
