Mladenovacki Glas special first newspaper in Serbia to be produced by artificial intelligence

Mladenovacki Glas has published the first newspaper in Serbia that was, with the editorial instructions (prompts) of the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Slobodan Stankovic, completely created by artificial intelligence.

Stankovic, a journalist with more than half a century of experience and a member of the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS) for decades, prepared a thematic issue of this local weekly newspaper dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence with the help of the AI tool ChatGPT-5.2, UNS announced.

From Alan Turing, who laid the foundations of the idea of intelligent machine behavior, to Sam Altman, one of the key people in the development of the ChatGPT system, Stankovic presented personalities and events important to the phenomenon that is slowly changing the DNA of journalism and other professions.

– The idea was to demystify artificial intelligence in the special and bring it closer to people - without fear or myths – Stankovic says for the UNS website.

By the way, this initiative represents one more step in introducing readers to the application of AI models in various fields, because in the previous few issues, Mladenovacki Glas had a permanent column “My GPT and I.”

– All texts were created with the help of artificial intelligence, from the first to the last letter. My role was editorial. I gave the idea, directed the process, specified the appearance of each page and gave instructions for photos and illustrations – he explained.

Technology, as he said, has numerous possibilities, but a journalist, or rather an editor, must decide, check, interpret and bear responsibility for every published word.

The editorial staff of Mladenovacki Glas is also preparing a second special, within which it will cover a topic that Stankovic, as he jokingly explains, conceived “in cooperation” with artificial intelligence. The focus of the story, he says, will be man in the age of algorithms.

– We will also deal with the issue of truth in the digital world. It is especially important to me that we do not just deal with technology, but with the meaning of journalism in the age of algorithms – he added.

Incidentally, last year, a similar endeavor was carried out by the editorial staff of the Italian newspaper Il Foglio, in which one issue was entirely generated by artificial intelligence, while journalists and editors participated only in posing topics and questions.

After this experience, the editors and journalists of the newspaper Il Foglio pointed out the limitations of AI-generated content, primarily referring to originality.
