EPS achieves profit of 42.3 billion dinars in 2025 – Construction of solar power plants with capacity of 1 GW to begin this year

The Assembly of the Joint Stock Company Elektroprivreda Srbije adopted the Report on the Implementation of the Three-Year Business Plan for 2025, in which a profit of 42.3 billion dinars was achieved, which is significantly better than in 2024, EPS announced.

Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, Minister of Mining and Energy and representative of the founders in the Assembly of JSC EPS, emphasized that the largest energy company in the country had continued the trend of stable business operations, profit and continuous investment for the third year in a row.

– Taking into account the worst hydrology on the Danube in the last 35 years, the achieved profit is a clear indicator that the company’s domestic and rational management yields good results. The year behind us was also a year of challenges and reforms, with increased coal production and increased electricity production from thermal capacities – said Djedovic Handanovic.

She emphasized that, in 2025, EPS had strengthened its power by 76 new, green megawatts and that for the first time it had wind and solar energy in its portfolio. The Minister also pointed to completed environmental projects, as the trial operation of the desulfurization plant in TENT A and the construction of the same kind of plant in TENT B had been completed.

– The implementation of investments was also good, as much as 97 percent of the plan. Investments in 2025 reached 52.7 billion dinars, of which 44.97 billion dinars were from its own funds. It is important to emphasize that due to the scope and complexity of the preparatory activities, the start of the implementation of the strategic project for the construction of 1 GW solar power plants with battery storage is expected in 2026. It is crucial that in the coming period, more and faster work is done on the development of strategic projects of the reversible HPP “Bistrica” and solar power plants – said Djedovic Handanovic. She reminded that the largest installation of mining equipment for as many as four systems in the Mining Basin “Kolubara” was underway, and that the 100% realization of investments in mining of 18.8 billion dinars was commendable.

– Also, during the past year, most of the work on the revitalization of the second unit of the RHPP “Bajina Basta” was completed, so the “golden reserve” of EPS will contribute to the energy security of Serbia at full capacity from March – she said.

The high percentage of investment realization was also accompanied by the fact that there were no changes and rebalances of the business plan.

– This is certainly one of the signs of improved company planning. The continuation of the transformation is also noticeable, within which the assessment of key performance indicators of the Executive Board was carried out for the first time, but more work and effort are needed in this process. The Decarbonization Action Plan has been adopted, organizational changes have continued, new foundations have been laid, however, ensuring energy security requires continuous work on developing new production capacities, developing human resources, improving the organizational culture and efficiency and productivity of the company, including all branches – said Djedovic Handanovic.
