Car collector and new owner of the rights to the name and model Yugo Aleksandar Bjelic wants to protect the name and bring it back to the roads.
Born in Germany and never lived in the former Yugoslavia or Serbia. A Serb by origin, and as a collector of classic and sports cars, and of course Zastava vehicles, he decided to initiate the protection of the Zastava brand himself with the ultimate goal of bringing back Yugo, not only as a brand, but also as a vehicle. Designer Darako Marceta helped him with this, and the first Yugo will be ready for Expo 27.
– We presented the model in Munich at the designer fair, and that was a big step for the entire project. We received positive comments and that is the reason why we can continue with the project – Darko Marceta points out.
Some more big news, the same team has also renovated the Zastava 101. Work is being accelerated on the project so that this model can also be found at Expo 2027, and the new Stojadin has a completely new interior and exterior design.
For now, this team is looking for a factory that will produce these models, and Egypt is also mentioned, where Zastava had its own car assembly plants and where it was very successful in production.
The recipe is clear: the new “ace,” as many people popularly call it, will be cheap and affordable, and its electrification is also planned.
– The next step is two more models. Negotiations are underway with manufacturers who could produce it. The prototype is being made in Zrenjanin – adds Marceta.
The interior and exterior are in line with trends, but still much more modest than in Chinese models. It is more traditional. It is interesting that our neighbors, the Croats, are extremely interested in this model and most of their portals write that the Zastava 128 is returning in full glory.
