The contract is being implemented as part of the Belgrade-Palilula sewage system project, financed by a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the procedure was carried out according to an open procedure, in accordance with EIB procurement rules. Three bids were received for the tender, and the only criterion for awarding the contract was the price.
The Krnjaca plant will be designed and built under FIDIC Yellow Book contract terms and have a capacity of 86,000 population equivalents (PE) in the first phase, with the possibility of expansion to 127,000 PE in the second phase. The technological solution includes an activated sludge process with enhanced biological phosphorus removal, as well as complete sludge treatment, including anaerobic digestion, cogeneration (CHP) and solar sludge drying.
The aim of the project is to improve the collection and treatment of wastewater in the settlements of Kotez, Krnjaca and Borca, which are located in the Palilula municipality, as well as to reduce pollution of the Danube, in accordance with national regulations and the EU Directive on the treatment of municipal wastewater.
The contract with Strabag was signed on December 1, and the planned deadline for the implementation of the works is 55 months.
Let us remind that this was the third tender seeking a contractor for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant for settlements on the left bank of the Danube in Belgrade. The previous tender procedures, from May 2022 and November 2021, have been suspended.
