New investment to defend Serbia from fuel shortages: VML to build two large kerosene storage facilities in Jakovo

At a time when sanctions against Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) threaten to disrupt the supply of energy in Serbia, the domestic company VML doo from Jakovo has announced the construction of two huge kerosene tanks, each with a capacity of 4,000 m3. This is evident from the request for a decision on the need for an environmental impact assessment that this company, which has been operating in the field of storage and manipulation of petroleum products for years, sent to the relevant ministry. Although the details of the project have not been published, this investment could be interpreted as a move that will contribute to ensuring the continuity of air traffic in crisis circumstances, given that the size of the planned tanks indicates that they are intended for aviation fuel, not industrial kerosene.

Following the sanctions on NIS and the likely disruptions in the operations of the Pancevo Refinery, which is a traditional producer and supplier of kerosene to airlines, Serbia must have reserve capacities for aviation fuel in order for airports to continue operating without interruption. A total of 8,000 m3 of kerosene in the new tanks will enable Serbia to secure supplies for several weeks of intensive air traffic.

The VML storage complex in Jakovo covers approximately 4 hectares, with above-ground and underground tanks for liquid derivatives and LPG, warehouses, an administrative building and an industrial track - infrastructure that, as stated on the company’s website, enables the reception, storage and transfer of derivatives 24 hours a day.

Let us remind that Flystar Flight Support, a subsidiary of the parent company Menzies from Great Britain, which provides services to aviation in various segments and also operates in Serbia, recently received a license from the Serbian Energy Agency for the storage of oil and oil derivatives for the next ten years.
